Michela Velardita

Michela Velardita

Biography and criticism

Born in Caltagirone (CT) in 1963, Michela Velardita began her exhibition career with the International Art Exhibition Angeli in Caltagirone, thanks to the artistic invitation of the cosmopolitan master Lorenzo Chinnici. This was followed by several temporary and permanent exhibitions in Italy, Switzerland, Germany, France, Hungary, Spain, the Principality of Monaco, the United Kingdom, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Turkey, Colombia, Brazil, and China (Timeless Immortal Art). Numerous private collections of original canvases and authorized reproductions have reached collectors, museums, public squares, and other venues. The artist’s paintings are predominantly sculptural in nature, highly material, and characterized by the contrast between depth and light. Specifically, the artist’s works can be found in permanent exhibitions at the International Nativity Scene Museum in Porto Velho, Brazil; at the International Crucifix Museum in Caltagirone (CT); at the Municipality of Caltagirone; and at the Antiquarium Museum in the Suburban Park of Merì (ME). In addition, a collection of works is permanently exhibited at the Municipality of Casalvolone and at the Azimut Capital Management headquarters in Novara. In several cities in China, through the Timeless Immortal Art project, the artist’s works are reproduced. Critics write of her: “Michela Velardita hides stylized faces within dense colors, alternating full, almost vehement brushstrokes with lighter strokes that evoke memories. Behind the abstract facade of her paintings lies a deep realism that allows the canvas to be interpreted as a blank page on which to write a chapter of one’s life.” Master Architect Giuseppe Gorga defines her art as cosmic abstractionism, thereby giving it a specific artistic characterization. There are also numerous reviews by other professionals in the art sector, critics, gallery owners, and cultural event organizers: Lorenzo Chinnici, Claudio Giulianelli, Ombretta Del Monte, Francesco Chinnici. An artistic testimony is found in Paper and Dialogic Exhibition – Faces and Thoughts of the Soul, a first autobiographical artistic collection produced by the artist in private and limited copies and gifted to art enthusiasts, and in the Artist’s Diary, a book published by PAV Edizioni in 2025.
Michela Velardita’s work develops an abstract language where chromatic intensity and material layering function as primary vehicles of meaning. Her surfaces are not passive supports but active fields, shaped by accumulation, erosion, and transformation. Color operates structurally rather than decoratively: it defines spatial tension, emotional temperature, and perceptual rhythm, guiding the viewer through zones of density and suspension. Material textures suggest processes rather than images. Stratifications, fractures, and translucent veils evoke organic and geological timelines, as if each piece were the visible cross-section of an internal evolution. The balance between opacity and luminosity produces a shifting depth in which the eye alternates between immersion and distance. Velardita avoids descriptive representation in favor of energetic traces and chromatic events. Contrasts between expansion and containment, impulse and restraint, generate a visual dialectic that keeps the composition in a state of controlled instability. The works do not resolve into fixed meanings; instead, they remain open systems, inviting interpretive participation. Her abstraction is therefore experiential rather than conceptual alone. It engages perception through vibration, friction, and resonance between tones and textures. The result is a body of work that does not illustrate emotion but activates it, turning the viewing act into a process of discovery rather than recognition.
