Eugenio Giaccone

Biography and criticism

He’s born in Asti, the city where I live, work, and carry out my artistic practice, I earned my high school diploma in Fine Arts in 1992 from the “Bramante” Art School. In 1993, I obtained a diploma as Master of Art from the “A. Monti” Teacher Training Institute in Asti. I then continued my studies in Chemical Engineering with a specialization in textiles at the Polytechnic University of Turin, Biella campus. I have always been devoted to the figurative arts, constantly exploring and experimenting in the creative and stylistic fields. From 2003 to 2012, I worked as a freelance designer specializing in Jacquard fabric design for home décor, household linens, and clothing. In 2014, I experienced a true lightning bolt moment: the world of sailing and regattas! This passion immediately became a source of inspiration for my current pictorial research. The supports for my “sailing boat portraits” are almost always canvas boards made of linen or cotton, and the techniques range from acrylic paints to the use of pure pigments. Eugenio Giaccone’s pictorial work stands out for its thematic and stylistic coherence, which over the years has shaped a personal and highly recognizable visual language. The sea and sailing are not mere subjects for him, but expressive horizons through which he articulates a visual exploration that blends observation, memory, and creative impulse. His constant attention to materials—creased canvases, canvas boards, linen, and pigments—is never superficial, but becomes an integral part of the narrative: a dynamic, tension-filled story where every surface seems to vibrate with the natural forces it portrays. His brushwork is energetic, yet always guided by technical mastery. The artist knows how to balance formal elements in order to convey the strength of his vision without ever sacrificing compositional harmony. His poetics are grounded in a figurative representation that avoids mere description and instead aims to evoke. The sailboats are not simply “portrayed,” but immersed in an almost mythical dimension, suspended between reality and symbol, where the sea becomes an absolute element—alive and pulsating. Giaccone doesn’t just paint what he sees, but what he feels, and what the sea gives back to him: light, tension, silence, power. Though rooted in a figurative approach, his painting leaves room for more abstract or expressionist solutions, especially in his use of color, which often becomes the true protagonist—capable of generating rhythm and depth. His choice of materials and techniques, particularly the use of pigments, reinforces the direct connection between artwork and sensory experience, offering the viewer an immersive journey. Eugenio Giaccone is an artist who has managed to combine thematic consistency with expressive freedom, building a visual narrative in which sailing is not merely sport or passion, but a metaphor for existence, for discovery, for inner voyage.
