Silvia Serafini

Biography and criticism

Silvia Serafini was born in 1966 and has been painting for over 35 years. She graduated in 1982 in Advertising Graphics and in 1984 in Drawing and Painting from the “Palazzo Spinelli” Institute of Art and Restoration in Florence. She attended the Free School of the Nude at the Academy of Fine Arts for 5 years. Her subjects vary from fragments of ancient architectural structures, brought to life with the freshness and vibrancy of her colors, to windows—seen as an inner gaze into herself and the world—and animal portraits, which she creates for clients throughout Italy and internationally. Among the many things Silvia Serafini has done, notable works include: illustrating *Pinocchio* for the publisher La Mandragora; in 2016, she was invited to Reims (France) as a representative of Tuscan artists for the “Chianti-Champagne” exchange, promoted by the Rotary Club Chianti San Casciano; designing a mosaic based on one of her paintings, measuring 6 meters, installed at Disneyland, Anaheim (CA, USA). In 2019 and 2022, she painted the Palio and the shields for the *Calcio Storico Fiorentino*, achieving great success. She was accredited by the “Consorzio di tutela del Palio di Siena” as the official painter for her “artist’s eggs” (ostrich egg shells painted with the official coats of arms of the districts). In 2023, she was invited to Istanbul for the “Healing” Ficac Women Artists Charity Exhibition & Auction. In 2023, she also painted and designed the poster for Alessandro Sarti’s film *Che bella storia la vita*, starring Sandra Milo. She has illustrated various book covers. In 2024, she was invited as a guest on the show *Splendida Cornice* with Geppi Cucciari to paint live. Her paintings are found in important collections in Italy and worldwide, and she frequently holds numerous solo exhibitions. The paintings of Silvia Serafini appear as vibrant snapshots, swiftly captured from a visual diary that seizes fragments of reality in a whirlwind of colors and shapes. The artist plays with the energy of diverse subjects, ranging from historic architecture to animated figures, all fused in a dynamic synthesis. Her depictions of Florence, such as the dome of Brunelleschi or the facade of Santa Maria Novella, are never conventional but are presented through unusual angles that challenge both perspective and time itself. The use of mixed media, both on paper and canvas, enriches each work with a visual tension that intensifies. In every painting, there seems to be a race against time, a quest for completion that must be achieved quickly, as if the artist, in the immediate flow of her creativity, must face the urgency of a vision that cannot wait. Her painting thus reflects a constant evolution, where each stroke becomes quicker and more decisive, yet always full of passion and extraordinary communicative power.
