Origins and Education Filippo Pietro Castrovinci was born in Alassio (SV) in 1963. From a young age, he was immersed in the world of craftsmanship, fascinated by the skill and creativity of the blacksmith. Thanks to his uncle, a master blacksmith, he discovered this captivating world and learned the fundamentals of the trade. His passion for metal and its transformation soon became the core of a path that blends tradition and innovation, leading him to pursue a career as an artistic blacksmith. Over time, through dedication and constant research, he transformed his work into a contemporary form of artistic expression, pushing the boundaries of traditional craftsmanship and breathing new life into wrought iron with unique, original creations that transcend the limits of artistic blacksmithing. Professional Career and Artistic Research In 2004, Filippo Pietro Castrovinci co-founded the Italian Association of Artistic Blacksmiths with other local craftsmen — an initiative that played a vital role in enhancing and promoting the artistic blacksmith’s role in Italy. As president, a position he held until 2022, he actively promoted the dialogue between traditional craftsmanship and innovative approaches, building a symbolic bridge between the past and the present. Through organizing courses dedicated to metalwork — from forging to welding and casting — he engaged with colleagues from all over Italy, enriching his technical and artistic knowledge. In recent years, he has fully devoted himself to art, focusing on experimental and meaningful sculptural creations that preserve a deep bond between tradition and modernity. He entrusted the management of his historic workshop to a young, talented collaborator in order to fully concentrate on his artistic research and the creation of increasingly complex and refined works. Themes and Poetics His works stand out for their balance between strength and delicacy, geometry and movement. Each sculpture arises from an intense design phase, where the artist engages in a dialogue with the material, shaping steel into forms that capture light and the surrounding space. The result is vibrant, modern pieces that evoke deep emotions and establish a dialogue with the viewer. Always seeking new challenges, his artistic journey is in constant evolution, exploring the potential of modern technologies and redefining the relationship between man, material, and creativity. Every detail reflects a perfectionist approach, where nothing is left to chance. His sculptures are more than just art objects; they are visual and sensory experiences that, like the metal from which they are forged, remain etched in time, telling stories of struggle, hope, and rebirth. Filippo Pietro Castrovinci, a sculptor from Alassio, has built a solid and coherent artistic path, rooted in wrought iron craftsmanship under the guidance of his uncle, who served as his first mentor. From this foundation emerged a genuine passion that evolved into a profession and later into a cultural mission, culminating in the founding of the Italian Association of Artistic Blacksmiths, which he led for over fifteen years. His professional record reflects a strong presence in both national and international exhibitions. Castrovinci has always embraced dialogue and exchange with fellow artists, as well as a continuous drive for experimentation, which constantly enriches his expressive language. His work is marked by a balanced fusion of tradition and innovation, expressed through the original creations made possible by the new techniques he explores and adopts—pieces that are now available to the public. Today, his style is in constant evolution, mirroring his ongoing artistic research. His openness to contemporary and even technological tools highlights a dynamic and inclusive vision of art—one that continues to captivate collectors and enthusiasts alike.
