Walter Necci

Walter Necci

Biography and criticism

The artist was born in Rome on February 14, 1951, beginning his artistic research at a very young age. In 1986, he was already part of the 100 Painters of Via Margutta. Since 1990, he has abandoned figurative art to start his personal analysis, experimenting and exploring all types of materials. He has participated in both solo and group exhibitions in Italy and abroad, and his works are present in private collections worldwide. Today, he resides and continues his artistic activity in Lanuvio, a characteristic town in the Castelli Romani area. The words of Alberto Giacometti, “I do painting and sculpture to bite into reality, to defend myself, to nourish myself,” are not only an introspection on art but also a truth that seems to resonate in Walter Necci’s work. The Roman artist, like Giacometti, approaches art as a vital necessity, a response to the world around him, a struggle that transforms into creation. Necci is a painter and sculptor who, with mastery and passion, blends the languages of both disciplines, producing works in which painting is never just color, and sculpture is never just form. Each of his works is a profound reflection on matter, which is transformed, deconstructed, and then reassembled into new configurations full of meaning. His art is an ongoing journey between the visible and the invisible, the concrete and the intangible. His sculptures, stripped of all embellishments, reveal a spiritual tension that seems to speak directly to the viewer’s soul, while his paintings create a suspended atmosphere that invites reflection and immersion in the depth of his worlds. Necci explores the fragility and resilience of humanity, searching in the scarified forms and vibrant colors for the most intimate roots of the human condition. Through his work, the artist not only conveys a message of experimentation but also an intense spiritual quest. Like an archaeologist of the soul, Necci digs into the recesses of the psyche, trying to reveal what is hidden, the deepest truths that connect us. Necci’s work is not only aesthetically captivating but also an emotional and intellectual experience that invites reflection on existence and its essence.
