Biography and criticism

Tito Agujari was an Italian painter, born in Adria on April 25, 1834, and passed away in Trieste on November 2, 1908. He graduated from the Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice, where he honed his artistic skills. Following his education, Agujari became a teacher at the Scuola Tecnica Comunale in Trieste, where his brother Giuseppe was one of his students. Agujari’s artistic production was diverse, encompassing sacred themes, historical subjects, portraits, and landscapes. One of his notable religious works is a depiction of Saint Anthony, located in the Church of Saint Andrew in Adria. Among his historical pieces, the painting The Arrival of Maximilian’s Body in Trieste, housed in the National Library of Vienna, stands out. Agujari was also known for his portraiture, with one of his most famous works being the portrait of Pasquale Revoltella, now in the Revoltella Museum, which is dedicated to the prominent Trieste industrialist and philanthropist. In addition, he created numerous landscapes, demonstrating his versatile approach to painting. Throughout his career, Tito Agujari contributed significantly to the art scene of Trieste and beyond, leaving behind a legacy of diverse works that span various genres.
