Paola Bisozzi’s painting is driven by tension—between decoration and introspection, surface and depth. Her female figures don’t narrate; they exist as suspended presences, elusive and hard to decode. Material elements—gold, textures, layered surfaces—are not mere embellishments but active parts of the work, slowing the viewer down and demanding attention. The faces, often frontal and distant, don’t seek easy empathy; they question and withhold. This unstable balance is what makes her work compelling: it doesn’t provide clear answers, but invites the viewer to remain within the image.
