Gino Meddi

Biography and criticism

Musician – Composer – Painter Born in 1957, from a young age he was deeply fascinated by music and painting. In 1972, together with his friends, he formed his first musical group and began studying music at the Saint Louis Jazz School in Rome. A few years later, he joined Don Backy’s band. During this experience, he started writing lyrics and composing music, registering with SIAE as a lyricist and melodist, and depositing several songs. After his musical career, he dedicated himself fully to painting. In 1991, he met surrealist painter Gordon Faggetter, with whom he participated in a collective exhibition, marking the beginning of his love for the “surreal.” He has participated in numerous group exhibitions, including the V, VI, and VII editions of the “Natale di Roma” at the Cascina Farsetti in Villa Pamphili, where he won the 6th prize in figurative painting in 2011 and the Special “ARTE 24” Award in 2012. He has exhibited in Paris at the “Galerie de L’Europe,” in Turin, Breno, Sala Agostiniana at Piazza del Popolo (Rome), Castello Caetani in Fondi, Guidonia (where he won 3rd place with the work “La fonte del piacere”), at Via del Corso n. 528 with UCAI Roma 2, at the Stadio Domiziano at Piazza Navona, at the Embassy of the Arab Republic, Palazzo Valentini (Sala della Pace), Palazzo Albertini in Forlì, and many other prestigious locations. In 2024, he won the 1st prize for the project “Poets and Painters in Tribute to Spoleto” with the work “La Femme Fatale” (oil and acrylic on canvas 50×70), inspired by the poem “Spoleto ritrovata” by Liliana Biondi. His works are exhibited at the “La Bottega dell’Arte” Gallery in C.so Mazzini, 55 – Spoleto. Among his most significant solo exhibitions, we recall: – 2011: Scuderie Estensi in Tivoli – 2013: “L’Attesa,” a bi-personal exhibition with artist Patrizia Occhigrossi, at the Galleria Moderni in Via Giulia, Rome. The works of Gino Meddi reveal an intense exploration of the human soul, told through a unique language of color and line. His surrealism, far from easy stereotypes, stands out for its blend of warm hues and enveloping light, where the boundary between dream and reality fades into a suspended dimension. Each composition becomes an emotional journey, an intertwining of thoughts, dreams, and sensations that the artist transfers onto the canvas with extraordinary intensity. His painting, rich in power and gestural expression, does not merely represent but engages the viewer in a dialogue that evokes wonder and curiosity. The energy that emanates from each painting opens new spaces for reflection, inviting one to explore a visual world where emotions take shape and reality is transformed into a unique sensory experience. Meddi does not just paint images; he paints pure emotions, offering the audience an authentic and captivating vision that surprises and sparks a continuous desire for discovery.
