Mario Cianciotti

Mario Cianciotti

Biography and criticism

Mario Cianciotti was born in Santeramo in Colle (BA) on February 2, 1943, where he has always lived. From a young age, his life has been dedicated to work. A self-taught painter, he began his artistic journey by chance, and over time, it evolved into a true passion that drove him to continually refine his technique with constant innovation. His early paintings were exclusively figurative, depicting his past, with scenes of the countryside and the ancient farmhouses of the area where he has always lived. Later, he discovered and deepened the technique of dripping, through which he showcased the best of his artistic expression. Mario Cianciotti’s artistic talent reveals a deep creative force, one that emanates an intense energy and a profound connection with nature. His works are an explosion of color, where the texture of the paint, shaped and manipulated by the artist, rests on the canvas following a natural path. This personal, gestural compositional style becomes an expressive outlet for his inner world, allowing him to release his daily anxieties and emotions. Through his vibrant tonal chromatics, Cianciotti conveys a fresh visual language, one that departs from traditional oil painting techniques. His work is not merely a continuation of what came before, but rather a unique and personal sequence of scenes that define a new dimension of figurative art. The material he uses, integrated into the composition, plays a critical role in the creation of each piece. His approach involves a careful balance and observation of form and mass, culminating in a finished work that speaks to the viewer on both a visual and emotional level.
